Boulder Rez
This Saturday we decided to run down to The Boulder Reservoir and did a long run there. Bobbie did 50, Max did an hour, Wally and I did 70, and Sam did a smooth 80. We initially ran to the park entrance and this kid who worked the booth told us it was $6 a person to come in. So, we immediately turned the car around and parked in a nearby neighborhood subdivision. From here we ran to the Rez, and went right past the kid in the booth without giving him a second glance. The Reservoir was amazing. The trails were very flat and wide, it was a nice break from the hilly runs we had been doing near the house. There was a little ran and overcast, but the weather was a perfect 55 degrees for running. As we started to get into the run we picked it up immediately. soon we were clipping off 6:30 miles, passing plenty of older triathletes who were practicing for an upcoming race. After the first few minutes Sam made the smart move to slow down the begging portion of his run so he could have a strong finish. So, then the 4 of us left began to keep rolling on the subtle hills of the 5-mile loop that is the Reservoir. Before I knew it Wally and I were in the front silently pushing the pace in the raining weather. Eventually we realized how fast we were actually going, and switched spots with Max and Bobbie so we could control ourselves. Soon we made it around the loop once and Bobbie turned off, followed shortly by Max. It was then just me and Wally. However, this is always my favorite part of any run, when just the two of us go and finish out a run together. We always talk more and settle into a fast but controlled rhythm. We have done it so many times it is almost a natural reflex to settle into this patter with Each other. I stay right, he goes on the left. We cruse around like this for a while longer around the creek until it is time to head back to the car. We make it back a little early and then loop up a hill for a few minutes before we up the tempo one more time for the finishing few minuets. We ran 10.65 miles in the 70 min run and felt great doing. Soon after we finished Sam came striding in to finish his 80 min run as well. He picked up the last few miles and came in very strong around 6:40 pace. Overall it was a great run at the Boulder Rez.
